Oceania Cruises is sailing again, but it will be a very different ship. The first generation of Oceania Cruises started in 1986, when the first cruise ship the Oriana, docked in Sydney. Since then, Oceania Cruises has grown to become one of the world’s largest cruise lines. The new Oceania Cruises ship, Oceania Cruises Ltd announced on Oct. 14, will be called the Oceania Marina, and will be the largest cruise ship in the world. It will have 10,000 guest cabins, two Expo Lounges, a library, spa, 2 restaurants, a theater, and a fitness center.

Oceania Cruises is the name of a cruise ship that was once called the World Discoverer. It was built in England and launched in 1978, and was the first luxury liner built in the country since the British and German liners RMS Queen Elizabeth and MS Europa.

Oceania Cruises, known for its destination emphasis and high-level food, has re-entered operation after a 500-day hiatus. Marina, the line’s first cruise ship to depart the harbour since 2019, set off from Copenhagen on Sunday.

Bob Binder, co-founder, President, and CEO, said, “Today is one of those days we will all remember for a lifetime as we reconnect with our onboard family and our visitors to begin exploring the globe once again.”

Oceania, which has been owned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings since 2014, has seven ships with a maximum capacity of 1,250 passengers each. Longer trips of 10-14 days are common, as are world cruises lasting up to six months.

Prior to landing in Stockholm, Sweden, the Marina will visit ports in Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland on her maiden trip since the industry closed in March 2020.

The 66,084 gross ton Marina, constructed in 2011, was the line’s first new-build ship since it was established in 2002 by a group of renowned cruise industry veterans. It will spend the final few weeks of summer and the most of the autumn traveling throughout Western Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Greek Islands. After that, she’ll go on a repositioning voyage to Miami, where she’ll arrive on December 1.

The Riviera, the Marina’s sister ship, will begin exploring the Greek Isles on October 18 as part of Oceania’s relaunch. Then, on December 21, the 30,277 gross ton, 824-passenger Insignia, one of the line’s four small Regatta-class ships, will sail from Miami on a six-month “Around the World in 180 Days” journey.

The Sirena, a sister ship, will restart service in the Caribbean on January 21, 2022, followed by two more sisters, the Regatta, which will begin sailing in Polynesia on February 5, 2022, and the Nautica, which will resume service in the Mediterranean on April 1 of the following year.

Oceania will begin with a requirement that 100% of passengers and staff be vaccinated, similar to sibling companies Norwegian Cruise Line and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, resulting in “one of the safest holiday experiences in the world,” according to the business.

The SailSAFE Health and Safety Program was created by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings to provide a science-based strategy for a healthy return to service that protects passengers, crew, and communities visited. The SailSAFE Global Health and Wellness Council and the Healthy Sail Panel provided input, as did public health and scientific experts.

Oceania Cruises stated in early 2019 that it will build a new series of ships called the Allura-class, which would be 67,000 gross tonnage and hold up to 1,200 people. Fincantieri, a well-known shipbuilder, will construct the two new ships at a cost of more than $650 million each, with delivery dates in 2022 and 2025.

On Oceania’s ships, foodies will be in heaven. Master Chef Jacques Pépin, the author of 30 cookbooks and presenter of 13 PBS television programs, has been the Executive Culinary Director of the premium cruise line since 2003.

The cruise price includes all Oceania restaurants, and open seating means passengers may dine anywhere and whenever they choose. The line’s claim that it provides “The Finest Cuisine at Sea” is supported with a variety of French, Italian, Asian, and American restaurant specialities. Food-focused ‘Culinary Discovery Tours’ are also available in the Marina and the Riviera, with the goal of connecting profoundly with the cuisines of locations.

On Oceania’s next ship, the Vista, that constant emphasis on exquisite dining will continue and grow, with a dozen distinct eateries, four of which will be new to the company.

The luxury cruise line Oceania Cruises is facing the worst winter crisis in its history after its ships were caught in ice in the Baltic Sea and St Petersburg, crippling operations for the company that counts Princess Cruises among its fastest growing brands..
