The Holland America Line will re-start sailing from Florida after Hurricane Irma disrupted service throughout September. The company has resumed four sailings each week with the first set to depart on October 14th.

The Nieuw Amsterdam will cruise to the Eastern and Southern Caribbean on a variety of seven to 14-night itineraries from South Florida. The ship will move to the west coast in April 2022, embarking on a 19-night Panama Canal trip before travelling north for the Alaska cruising season.

When cruising began in Alaska, the Nieuw Amsterdam was one of the first cruise ships to resume trips. With stops in Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Sitka, and Ketchikan, Holland America has launched a seven-night “Alaskan Explorer” itinerary. It also offered picturesque cruise in Glacier Bay and Stephens Passage in Alaska.

The ship was used to repatriate Indonesian crew members during the cruise industry stoppage before being reduced to minimum personnel.
The line’s newest ship, the Rotterdam, will make its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale on November 5. The inaugural will make stops in the Bahamas at Half Moon Cay and Bimini. The ship will next go on a series of 10-, 11-, and 21-night cruises across the Caribbean. The ship will move to Northern Europe next spring, sailing Baltic trips from Amsterdam.

The company expects to have its whole fleet back in service by late spring 2022.
During the closure, Port Everglades remained available to cruise ships that needed to dock for provisions and gasoline. Celebrity Edge, the first big cruise ship to leave North America in 15 months, embarked on its inaugural commercial trip in June 2021.
Port Everglades, which competes with Miami to the south and Port Canaveral to the north, handled four million cruise passengers in 2019.
It set a new world record on December 1, 2019, when it processed 55,964 cruisers boarding and disembarking in one day. In March 2016, a previous high of 55,885 was reached.
