People are taking cruise vacations more often. Cruise ships have to compete for passengers with other types of travel, so the industry has seen a significant increase in recent years. The increased demand is putting pressure on infrastructure that can’t keep up.
The “us cruises” is a cruise ship that has been increasing its traffic with six ships in one week. The “us cruises” is the largest passenger vessel to dock at Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Jamaica experienced its biggest week so far this week, after making it known some weeks ago that it would be opening up additional cruise ports around the nation and expecting increasing cruise ship traffic to stop in the country.
Between Ocho Rios and Falmouth, the six ships were dispersed. With roughly 75,000 cruise tourists booked through the end of the year, additional ships are likely to land in one of the country’s five cruise ports in the following weeks.
In One Week, Six Cruise Ships
This week was the busiest in Jamaica since cruise ships ceased traveling to the island for more than 16 months due to a halt in operations. Two ships stopped in Falmouth and four ships docked in the famed cruise resort of Ocho Rios.
The week began on November 14 with the arrival of the Emerald Princess, which carried 2,780 passengers and crew members to the port of Falmouth for the first time in almost twenty months.
Norwegian Gem and AIDAdiva arrived at Ocho Rios on November 15, while Carnival Sunrise and MSC Meraviglia docked on November 17. On November 19, AIDA cruises returned to Falmouth.
“This is something we want to see many times in the coming months,” said Colin Gager, the Mayor of Falmouth. “This is a progressive return to cruise ships in Falmouth, which we warmly welcome.” We are looking forward to the complete restoration of cruise vessels to the parish, since it will help inhabitants and our numerous partners economically.”
The Norwegian Gem and MSC Meraviglia moored at Ocho Rios’ Reynolds Pier, which has undergone a multi-million-dollar makeover. While cruise ship tourism is returning to Jamaica, it is still far from pre-pandemic levels; still, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett claims that this week has been historic:
“The reintroduction of cruise ships to our ports demonstrates the increased demand for our first-class, high-quality tourist offering.” Six ships in one week is a sign that the cruise industry is reviving, and we hope to welcome 75,000 cruise passengers between November and December 2021, based on current predictions,” he added.
Three cruise ports are open for business.
Apart from Ocho Rios and Falmouth, Jamaica now has three cruise ports. The little port of Port Antonio on the island’s northern coast has been focusing on smaller, luxury boats, with calls from The World and Scenic Eclipse.

The tourism minister hopes to have all cruise ports operating by the end of the year, or early next year, with the emphasis currently on Port Royal and Montego Bay. If all goes according to plan for Jamaica, the country will need that port capacity.
Previously, Carnival Corporation CEO Arnold Donald said that the world’s biggest cruise line intended to visit the island with at least 110 cruise ships.
Royal Caribbean plans to send no fewer than four Oasis-class ships to Jamaica, including Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, and Symphony of the Seas, according to Tourism Minister Bartlet, with the potential of Wonder of the Seas as well.
